Japan sent surplus LNG to Europe

Japan sent its surplus liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe. This was announced on February 9 by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of the country, Koichi Hagiuda.

“Several LNG tankers, which Japanese companies can sell as they wish, are already on their way to Europe to reach their destination in February,” he told reporters.

Hagiuda added that it is also planned to send several LNG tankers to Europe in March. However, he stressed that when it comes to delivering LNG to Europe, which is facing an “acute shortage of gas,” Japan’s energy security comes first.

Earlier that day, Japanese media reported that the Japanese authorities were ready to supply LNG to Europe in case of interruptions due to the aggravation of the situation around Ukraine.

On January 18, Wintershall Dea, the largest German oil and gas company, commenting on the causes of the gas crisis in Europe, recalled that Gazprom had been a reliable supplier of Russian gas for more than 30 years. One of the main factors that influenced the gas crisis in Europe was the growth in demand for liquefied natural gas in Asia, they noted.

Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous speculations about allegedly possible Russian aggression against Ukraine. Against this background, there are calls for new anti-Russian sanctions.

The Russian side has repeatedly denied such accusations, emphasizing that it has no plans to invade a neighboring country.
