With C-IT technology, drivers are to be warned of construction sites earlier. Autobahn-GmbH is currently upgrading its mobile information boards accordingly. Actually, she wanted to be further.
The Autobahn-Gesellschaft is getting slower than planned when setting up a special construction site early warning system for drivers. This Wednesday the 1,000th Accordingly, the GmbH announced that the construction site warning has been converted to the Erkner motorway master in Berlin. By the end of June, a total of 1,200 mobile barrier tables should be equipped with the technology mentioned.
It transmits the construction site warning to the digital display in the dashboard of the vehicles using a WLAN connection. Motorists then have an eye on how far it is to the construction site. They are then warned early on in the event of short -term restrictions. “As the first street infrastructure operator in Europe, Autobahn GmbH has transferred the C-IT construction site warning service into regular operation and space,” said the managing director of the Autobahn-GmbH personnel, Sebastian Mohr.
Society wanted to be further
The truth, however, includes that the federal society wanted to convert all of its 1,500 mobile construction site signs by the end of 2023. As a rule, these are construction site vehicles with flashing arrows that are often used for spontaneous work along motorways. Why the Autobahn-GmbH is not yet further remained open at first.
The construction site warning is part of a greater idea: With the C -ITs – according to the English name Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems – vehicles should in future communicate independently and with the infrastructure and warn themselves in spontaneous accidents or other unpredictable traffic events.
They should make the human uncertainty factor a little safer in road traffic. The background is an EU directive from 2010. The ADAC is also on board and continues to accompany the topic of its own information. However, the association demands that the equipment must be further advanced on the manufacturer. So far, it was mainly newer vehicles from the manufacturer VW that were equipped with the corresponding recipient technology as standard. According to the Autobahn Society, around 1.5 million vehicles are equipped with the technology across Europe.
The standards are also a problem, i.e. whether the information is transmitted via WLAN or other transmission type. It should still take a while for the technology to be used across the board.
