The automation specialist Keba, based in Linz, has taken over the Stuttgart-based software company drag and bot. The start-up develops an innovative operating system for robots. The transfer of ownership and the purchase were completed in December 2021, according to Keba. Keba keeps quiet about the purchase price. This made drag and bot GmbH a 100 percent subsidiary and part of Keba Industrial Automation GmbH, one of the three business areas of Keba Group AG. With this recent acquisition, Keba is strengthening its position in industrial automation and strategically supplementing its product portfolio with innovative, flexible automation software.
About drag and bot
“The motto is to use technology to make the often complex world of automation easier for the user. With drag and bot, we have acquired a company that follows exactly this philosophy and therefore fits in perfectly with the strengths of Keba,” said Gerhard Luftensteiner, Managing Director of Keba, on the background. drag and bot is a start-up company from Stuttgart, which was founded as a spin-off of the globally recognized Fraunhofer Institute for Production and Automation (IPA) and has been managed as a GmbH since 2017.
The company and its team of eight employees have expertise in the simple and intuitive programming of industrial robots and thus support users in the flexible and cost-efficient automation of their processes. The company name, as well as its software, is derived from the drag & drop principle, as Keba says. Keba kept a low profile about the sales of the start-up. In any case, there are plans to merge Keba’s sales office in Stuttgart with the start-up’s headquarters.
