Many baking ingredients for Easter lambs become more expensive

In many families it belongs to the coffee table: the Osterlamm cake. Compared to the previous year, prices for the basic ingredients developed differently – two of them extreme.
Almost all of the main baked ingredients for traditional Easter lamb are more expensive than last year. Hobby bakers sometimes have to dig deeper into their pockets after food was recently the price drivers in consumer prices, as has resulted from figures from the Federal Statistical Office last week.
Butter in particular is significantly more expensive than before Easter 2024. In March, their price was 23.3 percent above the same month. In autumn he rose to a record high, most recently he sank again. Sugar, on the other hand, is significantly cheaper, the price of which, according to the Federal Statistical Office, was 26.1 percent below the value of the previous year.
Easy increase in eggs and flour
The prices for eggs (plus 2.5 percent) and flour (plus 0.4 percent) developed less extremely. For comparison: On average, the prices for food in March increased by three percent compared to March 2024.
The bottom line is that baking an Easter lamb this year is a bit more expensive than at the last Easter, because – with a view to the recipe – the increase in butter is more important than the decline in sugar. But: Compared to many other cakes, the Easter lamb is still quite cheap.
