The impact of the Omicron strain on the economy will not be the same as that of previous strains, Polina Kryuchkova, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, told Izvestia in an interview. But the danger of Omicron is not in possible lockdowns around the world, but in the fact that a very large number of people drop out of work.
“If earlier the spread of coronavirus was dangerous for the economy through lockdowns and closures, then in the case of Omicron, which is characterized primarily by a large number of cases, the main impact will be due to the fact that people are on sick leave,” Kryuchkova said.
The distribution of the strain “Omicron” is characterized by a high level of morbidity, since it spreads rapidly. Since January 29, the number of cases in Russia has exceeded 100 thousand people every day.
