With 75.3 billion euros, the Edeka network has implemented more than ever in the 118-year history. Around 13 million customers make this possible every day.

The Edeka network increased sales to an all-time high in the 118-year history in the past financial year. A total of 75.3 billion euros were implemented – 4.6 billion euros or 6.5 percent more than in the previous year, the Edeka headquarters in Hamburg said.

Netto increases sales to 17.6 billion euros

The approximately 3,200 independent merchants of the cooperative organization alone generated sales of around 40.8 billion euros – 3.9 percent more than in the previous year. The discounter net also increased. According to the information, sales rose by 2.7 percent to 17.6 billion euros. Edeka did not provide any information.

According to the information, the number of food markets was just under 10,900, including around 4,400 net branches. Edeka describes itself as the largest private employer in Germany. A total of around 413,000 people were employed there last year – 2,300 more than in the previous year. They took care of around 13 million customers a day. The number of trainees remained constant at EDEKA and Netto at the end of 2024 at 19.240.

Investments of almost three billion euros

“Last year we invested a record amount of 2.9 billion euros in infrastructure, digitization and sustainability (…),” emphasized the CEO of the Edeka Central Foundation & Co. KG, Markus Mosa. The network will continue this course. Edeka and Netto want to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent by 2045 with 2022.

Edeka was satisfied with the Payback bonus program started at the beginning of the year. “All key figures are positive, are above our expectations and confirm the step of going to the future with Payback,” said Mosa. In January alone, the network was able to welcome more Payback users in its markets than before with the DeutschlandCard in a whole year.
