According to media reports, California is legally against Trump’s trade policy. The focus is on the question: Can the US President impose the tariffs at all?
According to media reports, California governor Gavin Newsom wants to file a lawsuit because of the far-reaching special tariffs of US President Donald Trump. “The illegal tariffs of President Trump cause chaos in California families, companies and our economy-they raise the prices and threatened jobs,” it said in a message from the Democrat, from which several US media cited, including “Politico” and the “Los Angeles Times”. “We are committed to American families who cannot afford that the chaos continue.”
According to the reports, the lawsuit should be submitted in front of a federal court in California in the course of Wednesday. Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta argue that the imposition of the tariffs must be approved by the congress. In a message that was also cited, it said that the “chaotic and arbitrary introduction” of the measures is “not only extremely worrying, but also illegal”.
In itself, California is one of the largest economies in the world – especially agriculture and the technology industry are severely affected by the special tariffs. In the meantime, numerous complaints have been submitted to Trump and his government for various reasons – California is involved in many of them.
