The Easter main day trip begins on Maundy Thursday. Anyone who has a seat reservation on the train travels more relaxed. But numerous construction sites slow down the traffic.
In the next few days it will be full and hectic in trains and platforms: the main travel time over Easter begins. Deutsche Bahn awaits the first large wave of travel on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The return travel then starts on Easter Monday, the federal group said.
“Most passengers in long -distance transport will be traveling between the large metropolises such as Berlin – Hamburg, Berlin – Munich or Frankfurt/Main – Köln,” it said. “In regional traffic, the classic destinations for the Easter excursion are the North and Baltic Sea and the mountains or popular holiday regions in low mountain ranges.”
Ferienzeit is construction site time
Now there are numerous additional construction sites that will slow down rail traffic. Traditionally, the train uses the holiday season with fewer business trips for maintenance work in the rail network.
The long -distance trains between Berlin and Munich are diverted for construction work via Würzburg and need around 1.5 hours more. The trains in the Ruhr area between Dortmund and Essen are around 20 minutes longer due to the expansion of the Rhein-Ruhr express. The Hanover-Bremen route is closed between April 7 and 27 due to repair work.
Train calls for consideration
The railway recommends that all travelers reserve seats. In addition, she calls for mutual consideration: “For example: to take luggage from the seat if someone wants to sit down or to support older fellow travelers if they are looking for their reserved seat.”
Wherever possible, the train wants to use longer trains with more train parts. There are also around 100 additional seasonal connections. Between Munich to Ancona on the Adriatic, a direct train for the first time. There should be additional sprinter connections between Frankfurt and Brussels. Another intercity connection is also set up between the Rhineland and the East Frisian North Sea coast.
