After two months with rising figures, fewer new apartments will be approved again in February. A controversial form of living can catch up.
The authorities approved fewer new apartments in February than a year earlier. After increasing figures in December and January, the number of newly approved units fell by 2.3 percent to 17,900 compared to the same month, as the Federal Statistical Office reports. Of the 17,900 apartments approved, 14,200 are to be built in new buildings, the rest in existing ones.
In the current year, including the stronger January, it is 35,900 newly approved apartments, which means an increase of 2.1 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. At a low level, the number of newly approved single -family houses increased by 12.4 percent or 800 units to 6,800 during this period. In large cities in particular, this form of living is controversial due to the comparatively high area and energy requirement.
