Business predicted a rise in prices for building materials up to 10%

Businesses have warned about an increase in prices for finishing building materials, wood-based panels up to 10% in 2022. The reason is the likely increase from 5% to almost 20% of the import duty on the component for their production (melamine), the Association of Furniture and Wood Processing Enterprises of Russia (AMDPR) reported.

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) recommended raising duties after a complaint about Chinese dumping by the domestic monopoly for the production of melamine, Nevinnomyssky Azot (part of the Eurochem group).

Low-pressure melamine is produced in Russia, but for the production of wood-based panels that meet modern international quality standards, high-pressure melamine is needed, which is produced only abroad, the association specified.

AMDPR turned to the FAS with a request to look into the situation in order to avoid price increases and the formation of a monopoly. The regulator told Izvestia that the letter had been received by the department and was being considered in the prescribed manner.

Any increase in the costs of building materials cost components is a negative factor for the industry, said Alexander Ruchev, chairman of the commission on the development of the building materials industry, technologies and industrial construction of the public council under the Ministry of Construction, president of Osnova Group of Companies. The rise in price of materials containing melamine will affect the cost of construction, decoration, repairs and housing, explained Andrey Kolochinsky, managing partner of VectorStroyFinance.
