The variety of breweries decreases. After the climax in the pre-Corona year 2019, the number of brewing sites in Bierland Germany will drop. There are various reasons.
High energy costs and dwindling beer sales led to the closure of dozens of breweries in Germany last year. The number fell by 3.4 percent to 1,459 companies, as the Federal Statistical Office reports on the day of the beer (April 23). That was 52 breweries less than a year earlier.
The record of 1,552 breweries dates from the pre-Corona year 2019. Before that, the number of breweries was continuously increased, especially in the form of small manual companies. The beer sales in Germany as well as export have been declining for several years. The reasons are the increasing average age of society and trends for healthier, non -alcoholic diet. The Russian attack on Ukraine had also driven energy prices up since 2022.
