Automated driving, electric drives, networking: from Mercedes-Benz’s perspective, a century of the century takes place. The company boss wants to keep up with Swabian values.
Mercedes-Benz chief Ola Källenius wants to steer the car manufacturer in Swabian manner through the upheaval on the Chinese car market. “What is happening is a century transformation,” he said during the car show in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai. This is mainly driven by technology – digitization, zero emissions or automated driving, said Källenius.
According to the CEO, Mercedes is investing more than ever in the company’s history in technology, innovation, products and tools. With the CLA presented in Shanghai in a long version adapted to China, the largest product offensive has started in the next three years.
Problematic competition in China
Efficiency is particularly important in the “one -time location of the century”, in which so much capital is made. “Invest at the highest level, but be more Swabian than ever in terms of efficiency,” summarized Källenius.
The Chinese market is incredibly competitive, with consumer behavior in the past two years being very behavioral. The savings rate is with values that could not even be reached “in the Schwabenlandle”, said Källenius. Over the next five to ten years, he expects consolidation among the numerous manufacturers on the Chinese market.
