At Ford Germany things are not going well: two new electric models are anything but a seller and the staff should save. The Cologne location could become smaller in the future.
Ford is considering reducing its Cologne location. The Ford Germany works council announced that the employer’s concrete conversations are known to sell working parts. Management intends to reduce part of the jobs via operating transitions. The works council sees this in turn, because after moving to another company, employees could have worse working conditions. A company spokesman did not want to comment on the project. The “Kölnische Rundschau” had previously reported.
At the end of 2024 it became known that Ford would like to dismantle 2900 jobs in Germany within three years, currently there are still more than 12,000 jobs in Cologne. The company is under great pressure. Ford has brought its Cologne location on an electric course with a billion dollar investment in recent years, but business with the two new current models is running slowly.
The German subsidiary of the US group has been shrinking for years, at the end of the last decade the company in Cologne still had almost 20,000 employees in the cathedral city. The area of the work remained the same.
