Qatar is small, but thanks to great natural gas deposits very rich. North Rhine -Westphalia’s industry wants to do more business with the state – and travels to the Golf together with Prime Minister Wüst.
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) promoted Arabic investments and joint business in Qatar alongside German business representatives. In Katar’s Chamber of Commerce, he met around 60 local business people, who were fundamentally open, but also expressed doubts about Germany’s competitiveness.
Wüst emphasized that the EU Commission has now taken a more pragmatic and thus better industrial course and that the new German federal government would again take on a leadership role in Europe. “Germany is back on track.” He wanted to “open a new chapter in relationships between Qatar and Germany”.

The bosses of the energy companies Uniper and RWE, Michael Lewis and Markus Krebber, as well as Thyssenkrupp, Miguel Ángel López Borrego, were sitting alongside Wüst. They also looked for a conversation with the financially strong business people from Qatar.
The oil and gas-rich desert state on the Persian Golf is already strongly invested in North Rhine-Westphalia and generally in Germany, the Qatar State District holds about nine percent of the shares of RWE. North Rhine-Westphalia’s industry also hopes for business with Qatar to secure hydrogen supply and thus promote the conversion of domestic industry to climate-friendly production.
Wüst also met the Emir of Qatar, sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as the Minister for Industry and for Energy; The talks took place in the exclusion of the public. On Thursday, Wüst would like to continue traveling to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates with the German Business Delegation.
