The USA and China are borne out with high tariffs. The US finance minister makes it clear that the high tariffs are not portable. But the White House also says what there will not be.
U.S. President Donald Trump did not make a one-sided offer in the customs dispute, according to his finance minister Scott Bessent. There is no one-sided proposal by the President for the de-escalation, said Bessent, according to several US media, after appearing in the US capital Washington.
The spokeswoman for the White House, Karoline Leavitt later added: “I would like to make it clear: There will be no one -sided reduction in tariffs against China.” The president said that China had to do a deal with the USA, and then he would decide on the amount of tariffs for Chinese products. It is important, however, that Beijing must reduce tariffs and other barriers.
Bessent continued according to the media that both sides would be waiting to talk to each other. He does not believe that one of the two sides thinks that the current customs level is permanent. “Therefore, it would not surprise me if the tariffs were reduced mutually.”
Previously, the “Wall Street Journal” had reported that the White House was considering a reduction in the high tariffs on goods to China. In some cases, a reduction of more than half is under discussion, according to the newspaper, citing non -named sources. However, Trump has not yet made a final decision, the sheet continued.
When asked about the customs dispute with China, Trump said that a “fair agreement” would be negotiated with China. When asked whether he was actively exchanging the Chinese, the Republican reacted somewhat evasive: “Active … Everything is active.” Trump had recently refused to provide information about whether he spoke to China’s head of state XI Jinping in the customs dispute.
