Union and SPD want a reorganization of the railway. What the incumbent Federal Minister of Transport thinks of it.
The outgoing Minister of Transport Volker Wissing speaks against a change at the top of the railway. Wissing said in the ARD “interview of the week”: “If you have an infrastructure problem on the train, as we still have today: broken, aging sign works and so much more, it doesn’t really help if you lead personnel debates.” He urgently wants to advise against this. “By exchanging management, the tracks and signal systems are not renewed in a company.”
The Union and SPD coalition agreement also says with a view to the company for the track network: “Both the DB Group and the Infrago are to be reorganized by the supervisory board and the board, with the aim of mapping more expertise and achieving slimming.” The CEO of Deutsche Bahn has been Richard Lutz since March 2017.
Wissing sees responsibility for defects in politics
Wissing said: “We have an infrastructure problem in the railway and this infrastructure problem has not arisen because the management of the railway has not seen any investment needs. But it has arisen by not providing the necessary financial funds for this investment over a long period of time.” Politics would be good if it were fairly dealt with with such topics. If there is still a big problem on the train that has to be solved, then it is open financial issues from the public side.
There are major problems on Deutsche Bahn. Last year, only 62.5 percent of long -distance trains were on time. The rail network is ailing. Highly contaminated routes are to be fundamentally renovated in the coming years. That costs many billions of euros. However, the financing is not secured.
