Inclusion programs are increasingly under fire in the United States. The majority of companies in Germany adhere to their initiatives, as a mood of the “Charter of Diversity” shows.
While US companies under President Donald Trump are moving back their diversity programs, a quick survey by the “Charter of Diversity” draws a different mood in this country: 90 percent of the companies surveyed continue their initiatives for diversity, equality and inclusion (Dei).
Only two out of a total of 100 surveyed organizations, each with more than 1,000 employees, of concrete cuts – primarily in relation to activities in the USA, as the association of the German Press Agency announced.
There, DEI programs are increasingly under pressure: President Donald Trump and his government have a campaign against such initiatives. They argue that others are disadvantaged by preference for some population groups. Many US companies have already returned or deleted their measures-including Google, Meta and the US subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile.
“Diversity needs orientation”
However, these developments are not completely ignored by German companies: Some companies would examine their measures internally, adapt other language and formulations. “We do not see a wave of retreat – but growing uncertainty in communication,” said club manager Cawa Younosi.
Aids for arguments, legal classifications and recommendations for choice of words are particularly in demand. Many companies are fundamentally secure their attitude, said a club spokeswoman. However, there are increasing uncertainty about how this can be conveyed – for example compared to media or in critical conversations. “Diversity needs orientation right now,” said Younosi.
