High operating costs were troubled by the group in the first quarter. On the other hand, the number of travelers from the USA developed positively – despite the customs dispute.
Despite significantly higher income, Lufthansa started again with deep red numbers. While several strikes had made expensive in the previous year, operating costs now rose noticeably in the first quarter. In addition, Easter only fell into the second quarter this time.
In March, despite the customs dispute with the USA, the group counted significantly more travelers from the United States than a year earlier, as he announced in Frankfurt on Tuesday. The bookings from the USA continued to increase. This is also why CEO Carsten Spohr states to increase the profit in the day -to -day business (adjusted EBIT) in the current year and to “significantly” exceed the previous year’s value of around 1.65 billion euros.
In the first quarter, the group’s sales increased by ten percent to 8.1 billion euros in the year. The operational loss (adjusted EBIT), which was adjusted by special items, decreased by 15 percent to 722 million euros.
In the passenger business, however, the minus increased to 934 million euros. The bottom line was that the group’s shortfall grew by more than a fifth to 885 million euros due to a lower tax relief.
