Deutsche Post gave the postage increase significantly better business at the beginning of the year. As the Bonn logistician DHL announced with his letter division Deutsche Post, sales in the post & package area of ​​Germany in the first quarter of 2025 were around 4.4 billion euros and thus 3.8 percent higher than in the same period last year. The postal voting in the federal election also had a positive effect.

The operating profit (EBIT) said that 44.6 percent to 281 million euros. In 2024, said operating result had shrunk by 5.6 percent to 821 million euros. Now it goes steeply.

That is “a very gratifying result,” said Financial Officer Melanie Kreis with a view to the EBIT of this area area. The previous year’s quarter was relatively weak. In addition, she underpinned the goal of obtaining an operating result of one billion euros per year in the German regular business in order to be able to invest enough and enable climate -friendly operation.

Big plus in the postport

At the beginning of the year, the posting had increased by a total of 10.5 percent. Depending on the type of letter, the climb was different, a standard letter has been cost 95 cents since then and thus 10 cents more than before. Post considered this price increase approved by the Federal Network Agency to be overdue, after all, the letter in the digital age has long been falling that the costs have increased and the need for investment has been high. The Bonn company wanted to turn the price screw more strongly, but was not allowed.

Fewer letters, more packages

While the demand for letters is falling, packages are booming – this structural change continues in the first quarter. According to the information, the amount of letters promoted by Swiss Post fell by 5.3 percent to 2.9 billion and the amount of packages rose by 11.2 percent to around 0.5 billion. The company emphasized that the regulatory framework in Germany remained difficult.

The global group with around 600,000 employees also developed positively in other business areas. Group sales rose by 2.8 percent to a good 20.8 billion euros in the first quarter. The result before interest and taxes (EBIT) was almost 1.4 billion euros, 4.5 percent more than last year. The annual forecast confirmed the management, however, possible effects from changes in US customs and trade policy are excluded from the goals.
