Dumping prices for company letters? Post rejects allegations

In the digital age, the amount of the letter has been falling for a long time, but business with advertising mail can still be a lucrative thing. Has the mail broke applicable law in this branch of business?

Deutsche Post rejected the allegations in a legal dispute with a small competitor. “We basically do not consider this alleged violation of competition and postal law as in height,” said Post CEO Tobias Meyer at the general meeting of his company in Bonn. With a view to Deutsche Post AG, he added: “We will protect the assets of society, and we do not avoid disputes – be it here in public or in court.”

It was about a lawsuit by the Ratinger letter competitor of German Shipping Service (DVS), which has already submitted the post -long price dumping in 2021: the Bonn market leader declared certain programs as advertising mail (dialog post), although they were not a advertising mail. It was about offers, changes to terms and conditions and invitations to general meetings. From 2020, Swiss Post only promoted pure advertising.

The Deutsche Post had calculated too low prices under the label dialog post, which caused DVS to receive orders. Recently, an investor who, according to his own statement, has been a partner at DVS and also holds shares in Deutsche Post, sent a letter to the board and supervisory board of the Bonn logistics and accused them of mistakes.

The CEO Meyer clearly contradicts that the allegations are unfounded and in no way applicable. “This legal dispute is about a suspected damage of 978 million euros plus interest,” explains the Bonn manager in front of the shareholders.

According to Meyer, this “spectacular sum” is completely exaggerated. The DVS claim that their business would have developed many times better if the Deutsche Post had done differently. But even though Swiss Post changed its prices in 2020, the DVS sales would not have developed accelerated – “the opposite is the case,” said Meyer. The Bonn Group is still a German post on the stock exchange, but in everyday entrepreneurial everyday life it now calls himself DHL.
