So far, Americans have been able to order Chinese products below $ 800 without any problems. That is over now, here too the special tariffs are gripping.
American consumers have had to cope with further episodes of the special tariffs of US President Donald Trump since Friday. At midnight, the exception for low -quality goods with a value of less than $ 800 (almost 704 euros) from China fell away. Thanks to this rule, Chinese online retailers such as Temu and Shein delivered their products to the USA on a large scale. The United States now also raise tariffs on these goods. Trump had set special tariffs of 145 percent of most goods from China.
Shein and Temu increase prices significantly
The “Wall Street Journal” reported that Shein and Temu had already adapted their prizes to their website last week. They were increased by about 40 to 100 percent. A Temu customer from the state of Washington told the “New York Times” that an additional import fee was opened to her total. In addition to the $ 83.80 in your shopping basket, import fees of $ 92.08 were added.
1.36 billion packages last year
The low -quality imports now have a huge volume in the United States. The broadcaster CNN reported that in the past tax year 1.36 billion packages came to the United States in this way. Objects worth less than $ 800 have been introduced for years without the recipient having to pay tariffs or had to submit the papers usual for the purchase of foreign goods. The loophole was known as the “de-minimis” exception.
