Survey: Two thirds sometimes work sick in the home office

Disease, couch, computer: Many Germans work in the home office even when they are sick. This shows a new survey – and more.

According to a survey, more than two thirds of employees in Germany who work in the home office have already done this ill or on sick leave. This emerges from the new occupational safety report of the Dekra testization, which is available to the German Press Agency. The corresponding question answered 50 percent of the respondents with “yes, every now and then”, 18 percent indicated “yes, even more often”.

According to the survey, 24 percent of those surveyed are active for their company on selected days in the home office. 15 percent work mainly or even from home.

For the occupational safety report, DEKRA, together with the Forsa opinion research institute, asked a good 1,500 employees nationwide between the ages of 18 and 65. The survey was carried out in autumn 2024 and is representative.

Flexibility with dark sides

89 percent of those surveyed who work in the home office appreciate the opportunity to save the way to work. The flexible time division (68 percent) is also an advantage for many. More than half (56 percent) also state that they can concentrate better at home.

The downside: According to the survey, every fifth works at unusual times such as in the evening or on weekends and reports extended working hours. 21 percent complain about stress caused by noise, family or living situation, as many about physical complaints through non -ergonomically equipped jobs.
