EU Commissioner warns of high new US tariffs
The United States is already charging additional tariffs on EU imports, in the future it could be even more. The responsible EU commissioner speaks of potential taxes to a value of the billions.
EU trade commissioner Maros Sefocvic warns of possible other US tariffs on EU goods. Washington is currently conducting several studies and justifying them with national security, said the top politician in a speech in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. If all of these investigations lead to tariffs, exports worth 170 billion euros would also be affected.
This means that a total of around 549 billion euros in EU exports in the United States would be occupied by tariffs, said Sefcovic. That would be “a huge extent”. In concrete terms, the US investigations are about semiconductors, medicines and raw materials.
