630,000 euros instead of 21 million: So Grasser wants to get rid of the debts

630,000 euros instead of 21 million: So Grasser wants to get rid of the debts

The convicted ex-finance minister has high liabilities because of the Causa Buwog and tax claims.
“What is behind the tax office’s tax claim will be clarified in the procedure,” says Johanna Schumacher from AKV Tirol.

It is a special private bankruptcy: On Tuesday, the announced bankruptcy proceedings were opened on Tuesday through Karl-Heinz Grasser’s assets. According to him, the debts of the ex-finance minister are 21 million euros. He therefore has 300,000 euros in assets (accounts, traces).

Grasser wants to ingest himself with a creditor rate of three percent – 630,000 euros, which should flow within two weeks after the final acceptance of the payment plan he offered. The money will be applied “by third parties”, he announces. Grasser has been married in a second marriage to Fiona Pacifico Griffini-Grasser from the Swarovski family since 2005 and father of a 17-year-old daughter.

Insolvency administrator appointed

The Kitzbühel district court appointed the Innsbruck lawyer Herbert Matzunski as insolvency administrator. This is not the rule in the event of a private bankruptcy, says Johanna Schumacher from the Alpine Banker Association (AKV) in Tyrol: “He will have to check whether there may have been any loss of wealth such as sales or donations that are contestable in the past.” The bankruptcy regulations provide for different deadlines for contestability, about six months, sometimes ten years.

By far the largest creditor in Grassers is the republic. On the one hand, as reported, the state was awarded 12.7 million euros (including interest) as compensation in the Causa Buwog (according to Grasser, the trigger for private bankruptcy). On the other hand, the tax office has 7.9 million euros in tax claims – according to the bankruptcy application, it is a tax claim that has not yet been conclusively determined. What exactly is this about? “This is also a question that will be clarified in the procedure. There is usually some clue like income or profit,” says Schumacher.
