At the weekend, the first talks between the USA and China are to take place over tariffs. US President Trump refuses to approach Beijing in advance.
US President Donald Trump rejects a reduction in tariffs of 145 percent to Chinese goods before the first talks with Beijing this weekend. At an event in the White House, a reporter said China asked that the tariffs had to be significantly reduced before substantial negotiations and asked Trump whether he was ready. The President asked: “No.”
Trump also contested that the initiative for the talks planned in Switzerland had assumed the United States. The Chinese government should look again and study its files, said Trump when swearing in the new US ambassador for China, David Perdue. Trump described the former US senator from Georgia and long-time businessman as his friend.
In the trade conflict between China and the USA, high -ranking talks are to take place for the first time this weekend. US Finance Minister Scott Bessent and the US trade officer Jamieson Greer wanted to meet with representatives of the People’s Republic of China, the respective authorities said. In an interview in the Fox News news station, the US Finance Minister said that he assumed that both sides agree on what they want to talk about at the meeting. “I have the feeling that it is about a de -escalation, not about the big trade agreement, but we have to de -escalate before we can move forward.”
