The international money transfer system WebMoney can quickly find other partners and continue to work in Russia. Viktor Dostov, chairman of the board of the Association of Participants in the Market of Electronic Money and Money Transfers, told Izvestia about this.
“WebMoney is a high-tech platform that allows you to exchange financial information. This is a bit like Visa and MasterCard. WebMoney had partners in Russia who issued financial instruments,” Dostov emphasized.
In his opinion, WebMoney was a completely transparent and legal structure, like any bank. Dostov stressed that it is still too early to talk about the reasons for revoking the license from the WebMoney settlement bank, since the motivation of the Central Bank is unknown. The expert added that WebMoney can find other partners, after which operations on Russian wallets will be available again.
Earlier, on December 7, WebMoney stopped money transfers and replenishment of wallets for six months at the request of the Bank of Russia. On the eve of the Central Bank issued instructions to the settlement bank WebMoney – Conservative Commercial Bank.
Members of the system can no longer make replenishment, exchange and transfer operations using P- and R-purses — opened in rubles, from which it will now be possible to withdraw money only through the Central Bank’s fast payment system.
