In April, the supremacy of the VW Group is strengthening on its home market – BMW is replaced by an emerging brand of second place.
In April the VW Group dominated in the German electric car market. Not only that the core brand with 9,725 newly approved pure electric cars is far ahead of the competition, as can be seen from figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority, places two, four and five go to brands from the Wolfsburg group. Skoda even succeeds in displacing BMW from second place, albeit with 4,216 cars for 4,151 cars – among other things thanks to the new ElroQ, which now has high new registration figures.
The ranks four and five go to Audi with 3,390 and Seat with 3,196 streamers in front of Mercedes-Benz with 2,626. If you look at the entire period since the beginning of the year, the order at the top is almost identical – only BMW is still in front of Skoda.
Tesla, on the other hand, continued his crash in April. With 885 new registrations, the electric car manufacturer, who was still number one in Germany a few years ago, falls from the TOP10 and ends up in 16th place. Here the political commitment of the CEO and the greatest shareholder Elon Musk should continue to be noticeable, but may also also have an impact on the model change at the model Y.
The electric SUV has now also lost its long defended place as the most frequently newly approved model in Germany. Here, too, the VW Group with ID.7, ID.3, the together Id.4 and 5 of the core brand as well as the Skoda Elroq and the Seat Born. The TOP10 are completely occupied with German brands or daughters of German corporations. The increasingly wider range of companies is noticeable here.
Almost every second new Stromer came from the VW group
A look at the market shares shows how dominant VW is currently in the German electric car market. Both in April and in the first four months of the year, the group comes to around 47 percent. Number two is BMW with a good 11 percent including mini.
