After months of decline, some confidence germinates in the electrical industry. Especially on the home market, things are going up. But the uncertainty grows with Trump’s tariffs.
After setbacks in a series, the German electrical industry draws hope in the middle of the stimulus. In March, order incoming for the important industrial industry rose by 11.6 percent compared to the same month, as the Association of the Electrical and Digital Industry (ZVEI) announced in Frankfurt.
While the orders on the home market even rapid a fifth (21.2 percent), the growth from abroad was 5.1 percent lower. The bottom line was an increase of 3.2 percent for the first quarter.
Increasing sales, but uncertainty because of Trump’s tariffs
The sales of the companies grew to 20 billion euros in increasing production in March – 4.5 percent more than a year ago. Over the first quarter, a slight minus was 54.1 billion euros.
According to previous information, the ZVEI expects a decline in production by two percent for this year. Finally, the business expectations have clouded. “Last but not least, the erratic US customs policy should have been the decisive factor,” said Zvei chief economist Andreas Gontermann. “Because exporter expectations in particular came under the bikes in April.”
With around 886,000 employees, the electrical industry is one of the large German industrial sectors. She had completed the past year with a clear minus. According to ZVEI, the orders had remained 9.6 percent below the value of 2023 and the price -adjusted production by 8.9 percent.
