Temporary breathing in the trade dispute between China and the USA: For 90 days, the two countries want to significantly reduce their mutual tariffs. Trump then praises the relationship with China.
U.S. President Donald Trump speaks of a “complete restart” with the country after the reduction in the mutual tariffs agreed with China. Trump described the talks in Geneva last weekend on Monday morning (local time) in the US capital Washington as “very friendly”, the relationship with China as “very, very good”. Trump announced that he would speak to China’s state and party leader Xi Jinping – “maybe at the end of the week”.
In Switzerland, delegations on both sides negotiated in the customs dispute last weekend. As can be seen from a joint explanation of the two largest economies on earth, the agreed reduction in tariffs temporarily applies for 90 days. The US tariffs to Chinese imports therefore go back from 145 to 30 percent. Beijing’s surcharges against imports from the United States drop from 125 percent to 10 percent. Trump now said that would be negotiated during this time.
The US President described China’s opening as the most important topic of conversation. China would have agreed, but it would take a while for it to be put on paper.
Trump accused China again to let the drug fentanyl into the country. According to his representation, China agreed to stop this. The US President had spent duties against China early on because of the role of the country in the production of fentanyl.
