BMW is 3000 shareholders

For the first time in five years, the shareholders are filling the Olympic Hall again. They worry about the global faults and say goodbye to a veteran. Protests remain a marginal note.

BMW has again faced shareholders at a classic general meeting for the first time in five years. Around 3,000 people accepted the invitation to the Munich Olympichalle according to company information – often driven by the desire to hear first -hand how their company wants to come through the global economic reversal triggered by the US tariffs or want to overcome the weakness in China.

“Man is not digital. We all want to exchange ourselves personally. Look in the eye,” said CEO Oliver Zipse at the beginning – and to justify the attendance event. The chairman of the supervisory board, Norbert Reithofer, also emphasized – with the applause of the shareholders that the arguments for a presence event would have prevailed, especially in times of major changes.

Reithofer releases posts as Supervisory Council leader

Reithofer himself may have been an argument for the face -to -face event. The chairman of the supervisory board and former CEO said goodbye to the company after 38 years – visibly moved and recognized by CEO ZIPSE, shareholder representatives and major shareholder Stefan Quandt.

The successor should be the former CFO Nicolas Peter. In view of the majority relationships at BMW with the siblings Susanne Klatten and Stefan Quandt, the fact that he is elected to the supervisory board, as intended – can be considered to be safe.

What the next general meeting looks like is open

However, it is open when the next presence general meeting at BMW will be at BMW. The company wanted to obtain approval for virtual general meetings for the next five years on Wednesday. Among other things, Daniela Bergdolt from the German Protection Association for Securities owned were too much. Many other companies have recently only been approved for two years. After all, BMW promises to organize a presence general meeting at least once in the five years. And Bergdolt campaigned for more of it. “You see how the shareholders like to come.” How the vote ends here is more open than in the appointment of the supervisory board. A three-quarter majority is necessary for approval.

Environmental activists are also more likely to speak for further face -to -face events. They used the HV as a stage and, above all, tried to disturb Zipse with interruptions and posters. But they remained more of a marginal note.
