The food company Nestlé closes two production facilities in Germany because it is cheaper elsewhere. Employees no longer want to accept the permanent shrink process.
Employees of the food group Nestlé demonstrated against the further breakdown of jobs in Germany. Specifically, the rally in front of the Nestlé Germany headquarters in Frankfurt is about 230 jobs at the Neuss locations near Düsseldorf and Conov in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The NGG union sees the continuation of long -term development at the largest food manufacturer in the world to maximize profit.
“Nestlé has been drastically reducing jobs in Germany for years and is moving production – for example in the countries of Eastern Europe, where wages are much lower,” complained the overall works council chairman of Nestlé Germany, Andreas Zorn. From a once 12,400 employees in Germany in 2014, 6,500 have now become still 6,500.
According to the company, the location in Neuss should be closed in mid-2026 and the work in Conov (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) is to be sold. Nestlé will continue to produce in Germany in the future, explains a spokeswoman for the company. The decisions about the two works were not easy.
Last year, Nestlé’s global sales dropped by 1.8 percent to CHF 91.4 billion. The profit also decreased by 2.9 percent, but was still CHF 10.9 billion.
