Huk Coburg: Vast majority of the car owners avoid e-cars
Many companies create electric cars – but what about private car owners? According to data from the insurer Huk Coburg, skepticism and distrust are still dominated.
The very large majority of private car owners in Germany still avoid electric vehicles when buying a new car: in the first quarter, the proportion of pure electric cars was only three percent after an analysis of the HUK Coburg, the growth from quarter to quarter was only 0.1 percent.
“E-cars hardly arrive in the decisive market of private individuals,” said HUK CEO Klaus-Jürgen Heitmann. The numbers refer exclusively to battery -operated fully electric cars, hybrid engines are not counted. Source is the company’s own data: Insurance is the market leader in car insurance in Germany with a good 14 million vehicles, and a six -digit number of private car owners annually reports new vehicles. There are significant differences in region: in Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg-federal states with a strong auto industry-the e-car content is therefore more than twice as high as in Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony.
The company only looks at these privately insured vehicles in its “e-barometer”. In contrast, company vehicles of all kinds are also included in the approval statistics of the Federal Motor Vehicle Office, from the manager service car to rental car.
Used car market for electric cars is growing
According to the “E-Barometer”, a reason for the snail’s pace in the spread of new electric cars could be the growing market: if the combustion on an electric motor switched, 61 percent of buyers opted for a used e-car in the first quarter, only 39 percent for a new car.
Many drivers distrust used e-cars
In addition to the analysis of the insurance data, there is a representative YouGov survey among 4,222 participants over 18. Accordingly, a majority still sees fully electric cars skeptical: 42 percent consider e-cars to be good or very good vehicles, 51 percent, on the other hand, is less or not good. And only 15 percent said that only an electric car was possible for them. And 60 percent said that they had greater concerns when purchasing a used electric car than in a car with an internal combustion engine.
