Is the small Volkswagen plant in Osnabrück out? Lower Saxony’s head of government continues to see the car company responsible for the location.
In the opinion of Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil, Volkswagen must continue to seek a future for his work in Osnabrück. “The Osnabrück location is very small for Volkswagen relationships. This is a problem, but that does not release Volkswagen from its obligation to plan the future of this work responsibly,” said the SPD politician, who has also been on the VW Supervisory Board since 2013.
“The collective agreement has found a clever regulation that is translated: We see again very well whether there are internal options for securing the future of the VW location Osnabrück, or whether external uses of this work and the skills of the staff are eligible,” said Weil. “Both take place and that is also correct and necessary.” The state government had placed great importance on this passage.
At the end of April, Volkswagen had rejected reports of an end of the vehicle production in Osnabrück. “We are still checking different options. It is always about considering and evaluating economy,” said a company spokesman at the time.
