The federal government wants to meet the shortage of living space with more new apartments. Even before the government formation, the trend seemed to go in this direction.
In Germany, more new apartments were approved again in the first quarter of this year. The number of newly approved residential units rose by 3.4 percent to 55,400 compared to the same period last year, as the Federal Statistical Office reports. The vast majority of 46,100 apartments are to be built in new buildings. The number of approved single -family houses grew particularly strongly: 15.3 percent to 10,600 units.
In March, 5.8 percent more were launched with 19,500 apartments than a year earlier.
More new apartments are the declared goal of the new federal government. Last year, the number of approval by almost 17 percent had fallen to the lowest level since 2010. The authorities had just approved 215,900 new units.
