In their last words, the four accused of former managers and engineers from VW described their view of the diesel affair. So only one point is open in the huge process.
At the end of the fraud process for the VW diesel affair, the four defendants spoke very personal words. Everyone made it clear that they did not share the perspective of the law enforcement officers and the investigation against them has shaped their lives for almost ten years. In partly emotional articles, they emphasized how exhausting and tiring they felt the almost four years long process before the Braunschweig district court.
Prison terms required
From the public prosecutor’s point of view, the four former managers and engineers of the Wolfsburg carmaker are convicted of fraud that has been going on since September 2021. According to the law enforcement officer, probation is not sufficient for three of the four defendants. The public prosecutor’s office applied for between three and four years in prison for them. The defense, on the other hand, advocated three acquittals and a warning. The judgment in the process could be made after planning on Monday, May 26th.
The men threatened by imprisonment made it clear on Friday that she was stunned by the required sentence ten years after the scandal was exposed. However, they also described the pleadings for the other accused as “irritating and terrifying”. From the beginning, the process in front of the Commercial Criminal Chamber remained characterized by the fact that the factual question was made by the fact: it says that the facts were made.
Engineers who are said to have proposed the switch -off device say accordingly: we have expressed concerns and warned of consequences. The superiors replied: Problems had been talked about, but never about illegal action.
The accused see themselves as a peasant victim
In September 2015, it became known in the United States that VW had used a deception on a large scale that recognized exhaust gas tests and only then activated the full cleaning of emissions. The four defendants in the Braunschweig process essentially defend themselves against allegations and see themselves more as a peasant victim.
From the beginning, the negotiation was accompanied by the criticism that an ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn lacks a key figure. The complex against 77-year-old had been separated for health reasons.
