The airline strokes flights from the program due to lack of staff in the cockpit. There is help from our own ranks – but it is not enough to maintain the flight schedule.
The Swiss Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss is stroking 1,400 flights in summer due to the lack of pilots. According to the airline, there is a lack of a number of unexpected developments and an optimistic planning. Long-haul flights and various flights are affected in the short and medium-sized route network. A Swiss spokeswoman confirmed the relevant information from the “Aerotelegraph” industry portal.
Pregnancies, accidents, retraining
Overall, the deletions correspond to 1.5 percent of the flight plan between April and October. According to “Aerotelegraph”, unusually large number of pilots are not on duty for a long time. This is due to pregnancies and accidents. The retraining of crews on the new Airbus A350 also binds capacities. In addition, a new total employment contract with improved working time regulations has increased the need for personnel by around 70 full -time positions.
In addition, there is also the maintenance of the Airbus A220 jets for engine problems, as Swiss manager Oliver Buchhofer explained to the specialist portal. There are enough machines for the larger A320 medium-range jets, but too few crews. The possible external help from partners and Lufthansa has already been exhausted.
Older pilots postpone retirement
According to the information, some older pilots postpone their retirement to short -term relief, and part -time workers temporarily increase their working hours. In the long term, Swiss plans to expand the training capacity in the cockpit and to take over up to 110 new pilots every year.
