Half of the asparagus season is over, the prices have dropped steadily. Some of the pounds are already available for a few euros – but probably not for a long time.
Consumers can buy asparagus comparatively cheap these days: According to experts, prices have reached the lowest phase in the season. “From 3.79 euros to 12 euros per 500 grams, there is something for every need depending on the class,” said Simon Schumacher from the Association of South German asparagus and strawberry growers. “Actually, you can now take a bargain at all levels – with the farmer and in the supermarket.” There is particularly cheap asparagus fracture only on the weekly market or when it comes to the court sale.
So far the prices have dropped – usually they would slowly dress again in early June; Depending on the weather, of course. Claudio Gläßer, market analyst at the Agrarmarkt Information Society, also says with a view to the prices: “This is now the sole of the valley.”
An average of eight euros per kilo
Gläßer speaks of an average price for white asparagus from Germany of 8.08 euros per kilogram. At the beginning of the month there was about one euro more across all shopping facilities and all sorts.
According to Schumacher, the farmers are satisfied with the season – with the amount and quality of the asparagus. “The taste is even better, the rod thickness is higher,” said Schumacher. Because the season earned earlier due to a lot of rain last year, the asparagus was more likely to drive out and collect more strength.
