Who is a civil servant works for the state – right? That is true in most cases. But there are exceptions: some officials work in the free economy, many of them in Bonn.

A good three decades after their privatization, the successors of the federal mail still have thousands of officials in their ranks. At the turn of the year, Deutsche Post still had around 18,000 official employees, as the logistics company announced on request. More than 90 percent of this are active in the Post & Package division Germany – it is primarily about postmen, package messengers and sorters, but also about administrative staff.

The Bonn company is called Deutsche Post AG at Börse, but it has now renamed DHL in everyday entrepreneurial life. The globally established group has more than 200,000 employees in Germany, so the proportion of civil servants is well below ten percent.

Civil servant share decreases continuously

The proportion of civil servants decreases from year to year, since no one has been civil served at the post since 1995. At the end of 2014 there were a good 45,000 civil servants and at the end of 2019 only almost 30,000. Those posters who were the last civil servant in 1994 and stay their entire professional career with the company will retire in 2043 – then the topic of post -official would be history.

At the turn of the year 2024/25, the Deutsche Telekom still worked around 9,700 civil servants, these are full -time positions. At the end of 2020 there were around 18,400 and around 32,000 at the end of 2015. The provision of civil servants of the telecom employees in Germany according to the information was 13 percent.

Postbank, which takes over filiac activities for the post office in Postbank financial centers, also has civil servants in its ranks – like many, but has not published them for several years. In 2019 there were around 3,400 full -time staff and 900 part -time staff who were civil servants. At that time, the bank paid 86 million euros into the civil service fund. Telekom and the Post also have such financial expenses to take into account the pension claims of the officials.

The federal mail was privatized in 1995, and Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom and Postbank were created. Since then, these companies – Postbank now belongs to Deutsche Bank – nobody has been civil servant.
