The decisions of US President Trump not only make politicians at a loss. They also cloud the mood of consumers. But they don’t want to do without everything.
A good third of consumers in Germany, according to a survey, dispense with American products and services more often due to the policy of US President Donald Trump. 34.3 percent of those surveyed stated that they already used less corresponding goods and services, shows a representative survey by the Innofact opinion research institute on behalf of the Verivox comparison portal. Another 17 percent want to limit their consumption.
Especially with smartphones, consumers are concerned – a third wants or has already rethought their shopping behavior. Around 30 percent of those surveyed do not want to use American computer hardware and less often or no more social media services such as Instagram and X. But people cannot do without American products everywhere: just under 17 percent of the respondents can imagine an alternative at the Messenger WhatsApp.
Almost 30 percent of the survey participants meanwhile doubt whether a boycott of US goods makes sense. 36.3 percent go one step further and believe that US services such as WhatsApp and Amazon are already so present that they are indispensable.
A total of 1,015 people between the ages of 18 and 79 were interviewed online between April 30 and May 2, 2025. According to Verivox, the survey is population-representative in terms of age, gender and federal affiliation.
