SME retail sales rose 3.7% per year in April

In April, the Retail sales of small and medium Companies registered an interannual growth of 3.7% at constant prices. However, in the unstacted monthly comparison, a 1.8%contraction was evidenced. Thus, the accumulated of the first four -month period of the year reflects a positive variation of 14.9%.

As reported by the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), which also relieved the main demands of the sector: 86.7% of the entrepreneurs surveyed considered it urgent that the government advances with a reduction in the tax burden, while another central claim was the implementation of policies to reactivate domestic demand.

During the month of April Commerce crossed a complex context: sales remained stable or slightly active, but with margins very small due to the high cost of services, taxes and rentals. The low purchasing power limited consumption, and many businesses sold only the indispensable. Although some items highlighted some seasonal reactivation, most perceived an uncertain and difficult scenario.

All the items relieved registered year -on -year increases in their sales. The strongest growth occurred again in perfumery, with 9.1%, followed by food and drinks, with 6.3%. If we analyze the accumulated of the first four months, food and drinks maintains the highest growth with 19.8%.

To face the situation, most merchants took measures such as diversification of products and the reduction of operational expenses. In addition to the tax reduction, Merchants indicated that the government should take measures in the short term to stimulate domestic demand.

Facing the future, Merchants maintain an optimistic position, since 56.7% indicated that they expect an improvement in the economy of your company for next year. Textile and clothing was the most expectation item with 63.2%, followed by Pharmacy, where 58.2% expect improvements within a year.
