The skilled work of skilled workers in Germany has become smaller – but experts still see a obstacle to the German economy in the lack of qualified workers. According to the competence center of skilled workers (KOFA), every third open position remained vacant in March – a total of 387,000. That was 17.5 percent less than a year ago.

“The shortage of skilled workers in the area of ​​sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology is particularly serious,” says an analysis available to the German Press Agency. According to this, more than 12,000 jobs could not be occupied in this professional field in March. More than 3,000 qualified specialists were missing in roofing.

“This deficiency endangers the implementation of climate-friendly projects such as the conversion of heating systems or the expansion of photovoltaic systems,” said the specialists experts.

In civil engineering, bottlenecks have shown themselves across all qualifications. Around 2,000 specialists, more than 1,200 specialists and over 1,100 experts were missing there. “This endangers central civil engineering projects – such as the construction of tunnels or modern supply systems – from planning to maintenance by missing personnel.”

The number of vacancies is referred to as skilled workers, for which there are no appropriately qualified unemployed. The Kofa is located at the employer’s institute of the German Economy (IW).

Big shortage of skilled workers in construction professions

The announced financial packages for infrastructure and defense aroused hope for an economic trend reversal. However, your implementation is made more difficult by the continuing shortage of skilled workers. “In addition to the financial means, hands also need to implement future projects. However, these are particularly lacking in construction professions,” said co -author Gero Kunath.
