Wallbox check: network agency sees no dangers
More and more people are driving e -cars – and loading at home with the help of a wall box. But how safe are these devices? The Federal Network Agency wanted to know exactly.
The Federal Network Agency did not find any dangerous defects in a security check of so-called wall boxes for charging electric cars. The authority said in Bonn said that all tested charging stations could have been safely put into operation. No possible dangers were discovered when used.
At home installed charging stations for electric vehicles are usually attached to a wall. Therefore, the English term wallbox is often used.

The radio technology also worked – there was no disturbances, the network agency continued. However, the examiners found defects in the event of a lack of labels. “Electromobility is growing, which is why the quality and safety of Wallboxes is becoming increasingly important,” said network agency president Klaus Müller, according to the message. The authority, together with the State Institute for Occupational Safety and Working Design NRW, made the review.
The Federal Network Agency is responsible for market monitoring for products with radio technology. With these devices, it also checks security. Numerous wall boxes have wireless access to the home network (WLAN), for example to exchange data with a solar system.
Charging station also possible for tenants
Not only homeowners can have a wall box installed. According to the consumer advice center, tenants with a fixed parking or underground parking space on the premises of a residential complex can now request the installation of a charging station to their landlords at their own expense.
