A strong March pushed the foreign trade balance of the German electrical and digital industry. The industry warns too early for cheers.
The exports of the German electrical and digital industry rose suddenly in March. Especially to Europe, but also to the USA or Taiwan, significantly more goods were sold than a year earlier, as the Zvei industry association reports. The German exports rose by 7.1 percent to 21.9 billion euros in the month in the year. The quarterly result was also drawn to the positive area with 1.9 percent growth with 63.8 billion euros.
However, the clearest monthly increase in two years for ZVEI chief economists Andreas Gontermann has not yet been called for a trend reversal. Not least because of the “possible negative effects of the erratic US customs policy in the next month of reporting” it was too early. The strong increase in exports to the United States – by 11.2 percent to 2.4 billion euros – should also be based on advanced effects in order to avoid the tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump.
