Where are the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes? Buyers searched in vain in the Edeka supermarkets. Some were satisfied with alternatives, others gave way to other markets.
Whether cornflakes, “Froot Loops” or “Smacks”: After a delivery freezer, the Kellogg’s breakfast products will soon be back in the Edeka supermarkets and net discounter branches. The US company Kellanova and Edeka had disputed in 2023 due to higher prizes, the cereal manufacturer ceased to be supplied. As a result, Edeka claimed compensation for losses for lost income and customer losses.
After constructive conversations, one could agree on the return of the products to the Edeka shelves and net, Edeka and Kellanova said. From mid -June, the products should be available again from Edeka and Netto.
The US company did not pay compensation, an Edeka spokesman said. “But we approached the negotiations, to the advantage of consumers.” In April Edeka announced a similar agreement with Pepsi, the products of the soft drink provider could not be obtained from Edeka and Netto for more than two years.
Now the next problem has been solved with Kellogg’s. This delivery stop began in July 2023, after almost two years the return of “Smacks” & Co. “Consumers will now find all large brands on the Edeka shelves,” said the spokesman for the retail chain.
Price premium at Edeka unclear
How much more expensive the cereals are compared to the time before the delivery stop was not announced. According to Edeka from 2023, the Kellogg’s manufacturer wanted to increase prices by up to 45 percent at the time. That was Edeka way too much.
The Kellogg’s cereals are considered a strong brand in the food industry, the products of which many customers want – if they are not to be bought in a supermarket, go somewhere else and do the entire purchase there.
It is therefore twice annoying for a supermarket operator if he cannot offer such strong brands: On the one hand, he does no turnover with them and on the other hand he makes less sales with other products, since the consumer has moved his weekly shopping to a competitor supermarket because of his connection.
