Sonta -rich, blue sky, beach and sea – German tourists love Greece. For Hellas, they are the largest and most important holiday group in front of the British, and the trend is still increasing.

Around 36 million tourists visited Greece last year, more than ever. The holidaymakers from Germany contributed significantly to this record: from there, 5.7 million people traveled to Hellas, compared to 2023 an increase of almost 13 percent. The trend is likely to remain unbroken again this year, according to the Greek Tourism Association Sete, whose research institute Insete collected and evaluated the data.

German vacationers are still in front of visitors from Great Britain who took second place with 4.7 million guests. From Bulgaria (third place), almost 3 million people arrived.

In particular, the northern Aegean rose in the popularity of the guests: Insete recorded an increase of 40 percent of visitors last year compared to the same period last year.

Overall, the tourists from the world ensured around 230 million overnight stays and sales of a good 20 billion euros. The guests remained six nights on average and spent an average of 523 euros.

770 euros for a visit to Crete

However, there are large regional differences in costs that Greece vacationers have to expect. A visit to the popular holiday island of Crete, for example, cost an average of around 770 euros last year. In the Epirus region in the northwest of the country, however, visitors only had to estimate 192 euros.

Overall, tourism remains a central pillar of the Greek economy. With the inclusion of indirect effects such as supplier companies and supportive services, it is estimated that almost 30 percent of the Greek gross domestic product.
