A woman stands up on travelers on Friday evening at Hamburg Central Station. Two men show civil courage and stop the knife attack. They prevented worse.
Muhammad al-Muhammad is 19 years old. He comes from the Syrian city of Aleppo, fled to Germany in 2022 before the civil war raging there. He lives in a flat share in Buchholz near Hamburg, speaks broken German. That and his courage was enough to save people.
Courage against knife attack at Hamburg Central Station
Last Friday, Al-Muhammad threw herself to a 39-year-old woman whom travelers at Hamburg Central Station had seriously injured with a knife. “When you get up, I hit!”, Al-Muhammad is said to have said to the woman. She did not defend herself, was arrested shortly afterwards. In the meantime she has stood the crime. 15 people between the ages of 19 and 85 were injured by the attack, at times they floated in mortal danger.
Shortly before the crime, Al-Muhammad was on track 13/14, music listened, smoked. Then he noticed what woman did with a knife. Many people suddenly run away. “I decided to run in the other direction and stop the woman,” he said on Saturday. The woman apparently wanted to attack other people.
The young Syrian benefited that seconds before another brave passerby, apparently Chechen origin, is said to have brought the woman to the ground. The knife, presumably the woman’s murder weapon, is said to have flown into the track bed.
“The police gave me a cappuccino”
After his courageous intervention, Al-Muhammad asked the police and brought to guard with a police car. “The police thanked me and gave me a cappuccino”, I was very happy, “he says.
Al-Muhammad receives a lot of praise on internet platforms, and more than 23,000 Instagram likes alone have received a contribution to al-Muhammads.
According to the current status, nothing is known about the brave intervener from Chechnya.
