Markus Braun does not give up: the former Wirecard CEO sees himself as an innocent victim of the “true gang”, which stole billions of steel to his group.
After two and a half years of criminal trial and almost five years in custody, former Wirecard CEO Markus Braun undertakes a new attempt to prove his innocence. The defense of the 55-year-old wants to show with a 121-page application for evidence that Braun knew nothing of billions in fraud in the 2020 collapse.
Allegation: Marsalek and Bellenhaus branched off billions since 2013
The “true gang” in the group were the undertaking board member Jan Marsalek, Kronzeug Oliver Bellenhaus and her accomplice, said lawyer Theres Kraußlach. Marsalek and Bellenhaus have misappropriated billions since 2013 and had been distributed from the Wirecard group. “The extent of the events has only become aware of the extent of the events here in the main hearing and through the filing of the file.”
Court should investigate money flows
As evidence, the defense lawyer referred to a large number of payment flows to a WUST of companies that are said to have been controlled by Marsalek and Bellenhaus. The court should now pursue these flows of money. “There are indications of countless other companies and accounts (…), about which billions should also have flowed with certainty,” said the defender.
Braun has been in custody since July 2020, the process has been running since December 2022, the main accusation is gang fraud with brown as a significant involved. The public prosecutor puts the fraud damage at three billion euros. The Austrian manager has rejected all allegations from the start.
Bellenhaus to Braun: “Sacrificial myth”
While Marsalek is still fleeting, Kronzeug Bellenhaus is a number behind Braun as a co -accused in the courtroom – just one meter away. Bellenhaus then accused Braun in his own admission and the former chief accountant E. as the third defendant to spread a “sacrificial myth”. Bellenhaus’ Defense prepares its own application for evidence in order to invalidate the representation of Braun and E.. A main question of the crown witness to the co -accused: “Why was I given me for so long?”
