The travel provider Flix goes on the rail in long -distance traffic and ordered dozens of new express trains from Spain. The new Minister of Transport also thinks that.
The travel provider Flix wants to significantly expand its range of long -distance traffic on the rail and orders up to 65 new express trains from the Spanish Zugbauer Talgo. The locomotives for this should come from Siemens, Flix said. 30 of the trains are already firmly ordered. 35 more could be accessed optionally, it said. For the entire package, including maintenance of the trains, the Munich -based company spends its own information up to 2.4 billion euros. Until when the trains should be delivered, remained open.
The new trains should create up to 230 kilometers per hour and have a barrier -free start.
Flix is one of the few competitors of Deutsche Bahn in long -distance traffic under the Flixtrain brand – but so far with only 13 trains, which are usually operated by partner companies. With the purchase of the new vehicles, the company thus significantly increases its fleet.
“With Flixtrain we are pursuing a long-term strategy and will significantly increase our offer in the coming years,” said Flix boss and co-founder André Schwämmlein. “We not only want to increase our market share, we also want to significantly enlarge the market itself.”
Support came from the new Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder (CDU): “The fact that a German tech company is investing on this size is a strong signal for the rail market,” he said.
