The mostly leading chip manufacturers in the world are sitting in East Asia and the USA. A top company enlarges its presence in Germany.
The Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC wants to open a design center for semiconductors in Munich. The new location is to be opened in the third quarter, where chips for automotive industry and other industries are to be developed in cooperation with the customers of the Group. This was announced by Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters).
The Taiwanese group is one of the technologically leading companies in the industry, known, among other things, for extraordinarily thin and thus both efficient and energy -saving chips. TSMC is currently building a factory near Dresden with several partner companies.
Aiwanger assessed the settlement of the design center in Munich as a strengthening of Bavaria in microelectronics. The state capital is among the seat of the chip manufacturer Infineon. In 2021, the US group Apple Munich had already chosen the seat of its European chip design center. Neither the Ministry nor TSMC announced how much money TSMC is investing in Munich and how many people should work in the new development center.
