48-hour taxi strike in Athens

Athens without a taxis is like Tsatsiki without garlic. With their two-day strike, the taxi drivers protest, among other things, against the alleged advantages that Uber drivers have at the airport.

The Uber and taxi policy of the Athener Airport and the responsible finance ministry brings around 14,000 taxi drivers of the Greek capital to the barricades. With a 48-hour strand, they want to paralyze the Athens traffic today and tomorrow. On both days, the drivers want to block important traffic arteries with taxi corsos.

Tourists are left behind

Tourists in particular are left behind. For example, you have to cope with the route between the center and the airport by public transport. Metros and buses drive, but the rush should be big without a taxis. It is estimated that there are currently a good 10,000 German tourists in Athens.

Protest against Uber competition

The Athener Airport has granted Uber -Wagen holding spaces in the arrival area – much to the annoyance of the regular taxis. Because some of them have to wait for their next customers for a long time, while the Uber drivers can specifically pick up their guests by app by the app.

Another point of criticism is the valid fixed price for trips between the city center and airport, which was determined by the responsible finance ministry. The trip for the 38 -kilometer route should actually cost 40 euros during the day, 55 euros it is at night. In view of the high traffic volume and the distances of different lengths, the union of the Athens taxi drivers criticizes.
